Simple Ways You Can Prevent Alzheimer’s

Here are 10 easy measures to keep you brain smart:

1. Have caffeine, drink coffee. Drinking 3 – 5 cups of coffee a day as an adult can reduce Alzheimer’s risk 65% in late life. So drink your coffee and enjoy!

2. Floss your teeth. Maintaining your teeth and gums can help maintain your health.

3. Become a web surfer on the computer. “Doing an online search can stimulate your aging brain even more than reading a book”, says UCLA’s Gary Small.

4. Aerobic exercise to grow new brain cells. Take a walk, keep active, eat fatty fish, such as salmon, get sleep, keep your stress level down, keep your alcohol level down.

5. Drink apple juice and eat apples. Apple juice can increase the production of acetylcholine, the memory chemical, akin to Aricept. See below for more suggestions on what one should drink to have a great memory.

6. Careful …Protect your head. Trauma to the head in early life can increase odds of dementia years later. Take precautions by wearing helmets when bicycling, seat belts in the car and stay on your two feet by taking safeguards from falling.

7. Quiet moments and meditation. Brain scans show that people who have quiet times such as by meditating have less cognitive issues and brain shrinkage – a sign of Alzheimer’s.

8. Vitamin D supplements. A deficiency of Vitamin D results in increased cognitive impairment by 400%. 394%, an alarming study by England’s University of Exeter finds. Experts recommend a daily dose of 800 IU to 2,000 IU of vitamin D. http://www.exeter.ac.uk/news/featurednews/title_88443_en.html

9. Education. A full rewarding life providing a strong cognitive reserve makes your brain better able to tolerate plaques and tangles. Maintain your purpose in life.

10. Avoid infection. New evidence ties Alzheimer’s to cold sores, gastric ulcers, Lyme disease, pneumonia and the flu. The theory: Infections trigger excessive beta amyloid “gunk” that kills brain cells.

Drink right for great memory:

Fruit or Vegetable Juice: A glass of any fruit or vegetable juice three times a week slashed Alzheimer’s odds 76% in Vanderbilt University research. http://www.mc.vanderbilt.edu/reporter/index.html?ID=4980
Tea: A cup of brewed black or green tea a week cut rates of cognitive decline in older people by 37%, reports the Alzheimer’s Association. http://www.alz.org/
Caffeine beverages. Caffeine fights memory loss and Alzheimer’s, suggest dozens of studies.
Red wine: If you drink alcohol, a little red wine will benefit your aging brain. It’s high in antioxidants. Have one daily glass for women, two for men. Excessive alcohol, increases incidence of Alzheimer’s.
Avoid sugary sodas: Lab animals have been dumbed down in experiments. Water with high copper content also can up your odds of Alzheimer’s. Google
